Treatment For Hyperpigmentation Of Skin

What is an effective treatment for hyperpigmentation of skin.  First we need to know what is hyperpigmentation.

Hyperpigmentation appears as dark patches of skin.  These are areas that contain excess melanin, indicating abnormal cell function. The surrounding areas are lighter in color or of normal skin tone. Hyperpigmentation is more prevalent in areas exposed to sunlight because melanin is stimulated by sunlight, like a tan. Other agents can cause hyperpigmentation, such as medications and chemicals; hormones can induce a condition producing the "mask of pregnancy."

There are several methods of treatment for hyperpigmentation of skin.  Hyperpigmentation can be effectively treated by a professional or at home using commercially available formulations.

The most common skin pigmentation treatment includes natural remedies, over-the-counter creams and cosmetic surgeries. Also known as hyperpigmentation, skin pigmentation are spots that remain after treating acne and is a condition in which your skin has dark spots or blemishes. While it is not painful, it can affect your social life negatively because of the stigma people with blemishes go through in the society. Fortunately, the blemishes are treatable.

Potato juice is another home remedy for skin pigmentation. Get raw potato and cut it into small slices and apply it on the skin until the spots go away.
Over-the-counter creams

You can get rid of skin pigmentation using topical creams. Over-the-counter skin pigmentation treatment has been shown to produce positive outcomes especially those that contain hydroquinone. Hydroquinone is a bleaching agent and is often used when the condition is not severe. You can also use facial creams containing ingredients such as niacinamide or N-acetyglucosamine as they are know to remove dark spots.

Chemical peels are available over-the-counter also. These peels are designed to remove dark spots by getting rid of blackheads, dead skin and clogged pores. Dermatologist use chemical peels such as Trichloroacetic in 3 to 4 sessions. The peel is also very effective in getting rid of aging skin.

Microdermabrasion: This involves skin exfoliation where the dead skin is removed and a new skin grows to replace it. The idea is to use an abrasive to remove hyperpigmented skin. It is done in several sessions and with time the skin affected will be removed and a new one will start to grow.
